The whole system on one grid. Every Gene Key is two trigrams stacked, and this is where they all meet.
How the sixty-four are built
Start with a single line, drawn one of two ways: yang, unbroken, or yin, broken. Stack three of them and you get eight trigrams, the eight elemental figures. Stack two trigrams, six lines in all, and you get the sixty-four hexagrams the Gene Keys read. Two, then eight, then sixty-four. Nothing in it is arbitrary.
The grid below is that architecture made visible. Read the lower trigram down the side and the upper trigram across the top; the cell where they cross is the key they form. Follow any row for the eight keys that share a lower trigram, any column for the eight that share an upper one.

How the keys relate
Beyond the grid, three relationships connect the keys, and every key page names its own. A key's pair is its neighbour in the traditional sequence. Its opposite is the same figure with every line reversed. Its inner core is the smaller hexagram hidden in its middle four lines. These are not our inventions; they are the structure the Book of Changes has carried for three thousand years.
